AN EXPERT in Trinidad is being sought by court officials after he told a man to smoke ganja to cure a breathing problem.
The ‘patient’, 46-year-old Trevelon Joseph, of Drayton Street, San Fernando, was arrested for illegal possession of just over 46 grams of ganja and was hauled before a court last week.
He pleaded guilty to drug possession but told the magistrate that a pundit at Indian Trail in Couva told him he should smoke weed to deal with his “cold in the lungs”.
He said he had been breathing more easily after boiling the illegal drug and that he used doctor-prescribed drugs if he experienced side effects, such as a swollen mouth.
The magistrate issued an order for the pundit to come to court so he could understand why he had recommended ganja.
The Caribbean shares the same court-system and it would be wise for INI
to follow up on cases like these, to record precedents for INI fight to decriminalise
herb in the Caribbean. Iman think a Caribbean-wide effort would be better than individual
struggles.
