Ihi am speaking from a purely Empress viewpoint, and one that may or may not beheld by other Empresses who trohdh Rastafari.
As a general rule, Ihi carry Ihi crown (head wrap) when Ihi step outside Ihi gates. This can be with a tam, a short wrap with the back out, pony tail witht he base wrapped, or fully covered. Ihi rationale for this is that only Ihi KingMan should see the fullness of Ihi beauty. It is also a striking impression of Royalty and humility for Ihi yahnh Ihi.
Ihi yahnh Ihi locks are life seen, and all life needs air, water, and sun to survive. With that in mind, Ihi do try to give Ihi locks fresh air and sun (a sunbath), frequently; not everyday outdoors, but one to two times a week. If the locks were kept covered continuously, and away from sun and air, the locks would become stagnant and lifeless.
As for Kings, Ihi think they carry dem locks uncovered, unless mansion ihitzhzh dictate otherwise. As long as the Ihi keeps the locks healthy and strong, nourished and clean, covered or uncovered would not matter. Ihi think Bobo Shanti Lords and Prophets keep the covenant (covered), and of course the Empresses of that order are covered.
Within Ihi gate, or the gates of another, depending on who it is, Ihi may put a crown pon Ihi locks. But within Ihi gates, with Ihi KingMan, or family, or in the company of sihstrehnh, Ihi locks go uncovered.
Again, just Ihi viewpoint, not necessarily laws for Ras. But Ihi too am intersted to see how others keep the covenant.
Has anyone ever heard of your Crown Chakra? This is where your connection to the Most High is made. (just from my personal experience of course) The crown of your head is a gate way of communication. With the Most High or with your Ancestors.
Yes, ones Locks can protect your gate way but that won't be necessary if you don't open that gateway. So, I am seeing things demensionally and spiritually verses, vanity and pride.
Don't make a different if you wrap or loose. The difference is weather you are using your powers to communicate with the Most HIgh. I've experiences miracles and things unknown to most both with and without my dreads ;) All the same Divine Order.
Ihi must have mis understood the Ihizh comment, fuh Ihi have questions regarding the Ihizh words.
Is Ihi sister asserting the idea that if one's head is covered, the crown chakra is closed, thereby cutting off communication with the Most Ihi JAH?
Or that the covering of one's head is not necessary, and neither is the covenant of locks to communicate with the Most Ihi JAH?
Ihi hope that Ihi sistah does not view covering of the head as vanity or pride. Ihi am wondering how this connection could be made.Could Ihi sistah explain further?
And Ihi feel most Ras "use their powers" to ihiniht with the Most Ihi regardless of crown chakras, dimensional realms or other forms of spritiual ihinnection. Ras is a metaphysical, spirtual, revolutionary mind force, not to be played down to locks or covered crowns. It is not meant to be ovuhstood in simplistic reasoning, for Ihi yahnh Ihi consciousness is ihivuh evolving, as shown here in World of JAH. But Ihi yahnh Ihi locks are a covenant; one kept with the Most Ihi as a tangible force ihinnecting between the Earth and JAH realms. The ihinnection is present and constant with or without the locks being exposed.
Greetings Empress
InI is curious about de sister's comment here, how then does one provide sun, air and water to their crown when they are working or constantly busy working with people? I love washing my hair for water makes it grow, but have a problem when it comes to drying it because it needs sun and air to do so. So most of the time i cover my hair while it's still wet because of InI is rasta and InI a working sister, but i have realised it gives I flu and sinus. What do i do?
I need my hair to dry completely....
A respond would be very nice.
Give thanks
Blessed love, Give thanks to the life Giver and Keeper of Life, Holy Emmanuel I Selassie I Jah Rastafari.
Very interesting question to put across still, as one seeks the fruit to the top of the Tree of Life, questions like these will manifest. I have read the replies so far, briefly, and while everyone has a fundamental point, the button seems to remain unpushed. Let I attempt...
Firstly, myself as a boboshanti, that is the way of life we practise. Robe and turban. Not just because King Emmanuel say so, but it can also be proven, through knowledge, history and common sense, that it is correct. Ones crown, is their covenant with the Most High. On just this note, ones covenant is holy, how can something which is holy be exposed to all man-made elements, dust, carbon, air borne bacteria etc. By remaining covered, it is proctected against such things. So as they say, cleanliness is next to Godliness, so being clean and remaining that way is done by taking good care of it and covering it. The hair is also not just holy because it is the covenant, but also because the pattern that black peoples hair grown in, its called the 9th Ether, grows in the exact same pattern as the Golden Spiral. This spiral can be linked to the Earth many a ways but that is not the topic in discussion.
Next, while this crown is still the location of the crown chakra, one must remember that ones chakras are activated by a number of things. Firstly colour plays a major role, which is why each chakra is linked to a colour, this colour can not only be worn, but consumed in a food form as well, thereby stimulating that particular chakra. As Boboshanti, we are supposed to wear specific colours on certain days, and lets remember all this the man set. These colours are not only linked to the colours of the chakra, but also the rainbow and the spectrum of light.
This chakra is also stimulated by ones diet, and also their connection spiritually with the Most High God, King Selassie I Jah Rastafari. Moreover, the radiation from the Sun is linked to the stimulation of chakras, being that ones head is where most of their bodily heat is found, covering ur head ensures this heat remains at a certain temperature, thereby enabling full function of such, considering all the other factors are taken into consideration.
Sorry for this to be so long but it coming to I as I'm typing so bare with me. Concerning history, if we have to go to Ancient Kemet, the Pharoahs and the Priests from the house of Horus, all covered their heads, what the Pharoah has looks like the sheperds fall the Boboshanti Prophets and Priests would wear occasionally.
So based on the above points I do hope it provides some enlightenment towards the question in view. Do give thanks to the Black Christ in Flesh.
There is much debate about the covering of heads by men during prayer, mostly arising that the Rastafarian tradition draws from two streams- the Judaic and Christian, and they differ in practice on the matter. A study of the Scriptures shows that head covering is mandatory. For example, when Moses encounters God in the wilderness, he is instructed to remove his shoes, as a sign of reverence to the Divine Presence. Being in the desert, he must have been wearing some sort of head covering. In the verse, he is not asked to remove any. Some would argue that this mere inference, and therefore not a solid commandment or instruction from the Father. OK, then how about this, then?
And for Aaron's sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty.
Exodus 28:40
In other words, head covering is both a religious duty as well as adornment. Some have argued that this verse dictates priestly ceremonial attire, and therefore only the Levites should cover their heads.
And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up
II Samuel 15: 30
The Prophet Ezekiel records that God commanded him to put on a head covering.
Forebear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.
Ezekiel 24:17
The Prophet then conveyed this instruction to the people.
And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet….Ezekiel 24:23.
Simply put, head covering is part of “normal dress”, and not just for ritual. In Christianity now, much of the confusion stems from Paul’s admonition in 1 Corinthians 11:7-10. But this was addressing a tendency towards cross-dressing, wearing women’s veils by some men at Corinth. In fact, when we refer to the Greek text, we find that the objection was to the wearing of veils (Kata- running down the face) by men.
I give thanks brother Masimba for this biblical explanation. The passages from Ezekiel seem to refer to keeping on a head covering and not mourning ie it reads like uncovering the head was a sign of mourning for the dead. That implies that keeping the head covered was normal attire. The other passages from II Samuel and Exodus leave no doubt that Icient Hebrews would cover their heads when approaching JaH.
I also give thanks for the words of the prophet Wishbourne regarding Boboshanti practises. This was enlightening. Also Empress Aziza, and for Ras Rebel for opening this discussion.
I man practise here has been evolving, to the point summarised well by Emprezion. As well as preventing the physical pollution of Babylon, I have also found a tam or turban protection against the stares and even hands of strangers. These can be both hostile, or admiring and a source of vanity.
However I have always uncovered I locks to pray, feeling this to be a more natural state and suited to approaching the Creator of life. Thanks to this blessed reasoning I have been instructed in a more righteous way.
