Amharic is the only African language with a native written system. Coming from Ge'ez, the liturgical language used since several centuries B.C., it has been used from the 14th century when the Kebrä Nägäst (the Glory of Kings) was formalized. Amaregna (አማርኛ) is the language the young Täfäri Mäkwännen was taught by his father, ras Mäkwännen, and abba Samuel, his early tutor. It is the language of the Kings, that decorates the buildings, churches, emblems and flags of the Empire of Ethiopia.
Amharic is difficult to learn. I-man cannot teach as a fluent speaker would do. The purpose of this group is simply to understand the fidäl and to learn how to read amaregna so as to be able to understand the words InI can see in books, on the web or in the streets of Addis-Ababa !
