I am no expert on herbs and know nothing of African ones. When my youths were small I gave them chamomile for high temperature and coltsfoot for bad cough. Ginger is good for coughs and for stomach ailments. Also lemon and honey for coughs. Plenty of liquids especially water are always advisable when ill.
Still I also used the doctor if they were really ill and especially for diagnostic purposes although they sometimes gave the wrong diagnosis. I am sure there are other ones who have much more knowledge than I.
It is natural to be drowsy when you are ill as the body heals itself when one is asleep.
